I’m a 19 year old student who is about to go on a ‘gap year’. I have dreamed about travelling the world for many years now, and am finally about the get the opportunity to set off on my own for the very first time. Obviously my mum isn’t thrilled about the prospect! And so, as a way of sort of dispelling her fears, I’ve decided to write an online journal of my travels across the globe. That way, both she and my friends can keep up with where I am, and what I’m doing. I also want the diary to be a sort of memento of my travels and a guide for those out there that are thinking of embarking on the same sort of journey as me. Hopefully my experiences can in some way help other travellers out there, by giving them a guide as to the do’s and don’t of travelling.
Next year I’m going to Leeds University to study Spanish, so I’ll be trying to incorporate some Spanish speaking countries into my trip – one of which being Mexico, which I’ve heard is meant to be an awesome country.
I’ve not booked much yet, because, as you will know if you have already read my first entry, I don’t want to plan my trip too much. I want it to be spontaneous, as much as possible. So the only thing I have booked so far is my flight to New York and 4 nights in a youth hostel in Manhattan – the hotel is called Hotel 31 – and will hopefully be OK for a few nights. The plan is, from there to head off to Las Vegas, but I may go somewhere else first, depending on who I meet and what they might want to do.
I come from Coventry in England by the way, which is where I have lived all my life. I have an older brother and an older sister who both went off travelling for their gap year. My Mum and Dad lived in Thailand for a couple of years before we were all born too.. so you could say that the ‘travelling bug’ is in our genes… just something that we have to do!
If you like what you read so far, just like my page and keep on coming back over the next year to see what I’ve been up to.
Who knows, maybe I’ll be the source of inspiration for other people all over the UK and set peoples imaginations alight so that old and young, leave behind the mundane and head off into the sunrise in search of adventures of their own! Read more about my journey here at theglobaljournal.ch.
